FIRST GRADE MATH

Module 5:
"Identifying, Composing, and Partitioning Shapes"
In this module, students:
  • Compare, analyze, and sort flat (2D) and solid (3D) shapes.
  • Put together ("compose") shapes to create new shapes.
  • Continue to practice adding and subtracting.

What can you do at home to support the learning in this module?

  • Ask your child what shapes she sees around her, in everyday household objects. "What shapes do you see in our kitchen?"
  • Continue practicing counting to 120 from any number other than 1. "Let's start counting from 36" and stop at 56, or try 62 to 82, or 79 to 99, etc.
