FIRST GRADE MATH

Module 4:
"Place Value, Comparison, Addition and Subtraction to 40"
In this module, students:
  • Learn about place value by exploring tens and ones up to 40.
  • Understand and use the greater than (>), less than (<), and equal to (=) symbols.
  • Continue to add and subtract, now with larger numbers up to 40.
  • Solve word problems using a visual model called a tape diagram.

What can you do at home to support the learning in this module?
  •  Ask your student to compare two different numbers, using the language “greater than” and “less than.” "Is 25 greater than, less than, or equal to 52? How do you know?" (You'd want your child to know that 52 has more tens than 25).
  • Continue to practice counting up to 40 or beyond. Try counting from a number other than 1. "Let's start counting from 28."
